Who I Am
My name is Shea McGuier. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California.
I have a day job as a corporate communicator. I am also a book-reader, ice cream eater, sketcher of sketches, and painter of watercolors. I used to be a photographer as well, but I forgot how to do it, so now I am having to re-teach it to myself.
I love to travel — and have had a lifelong dream of living in lots of places all over the world. In lieu of that, I’d also be happy to travel to places where I can take art classes and drink mocktails with people who buy art supplies as a competitive sport.
What else?
I am an introvert.
I swear a lot.
I love rainbows and colored markers.
I am working on several illustrated books and collaborative projects.
I am getting into the swing of “long travel” and am heading to NY with my husband for a whole month this fall!
I have a journalism background and am an incurable question-asker.
I run the communications department at a mental health organization and love, love, love doing this work in a way that creates positive change.
I love nothing more than talking to people about ideas.
My newest big thing is letting go of control and letting JOY lead the way.
And, if it happens to matter to you…
I went to Boston University and have a B.S. in Journalism.
I have worked in the creative fields for my entire career.
I’ve been a graphic designer and copywriter, in agencies from New York, to Seattle, to San Antonio, as well as my own small creative firms.
My corporate communications job includes wide-ranging work — helping non-communicators to distill ideas and bring them to life. My role covers marketing and corporate communications, change management, culture-building, content oversight, systems design, and more.
And, in a more joyful and less corporate realm, I am a certified facilitator of The Receiving Method.
